The ‘chancenkarte’ is a forthcoming initiative in Germany, often referred to as the German Green Card Scheme or German Opportunity Pass. It will employ a points-based system to facilitate the entry of workers with the required skills into Germany. This strategy aims to address the country’s labor shortages and targets individuals who do not yet have a work contract in Germany. The points system will take into account qualifications, professional experience, age, German language skills, and ties to Germany.
Option 2: The EU Blue Card
The EU Blue Card is a work and residence permit issued to highly skilled individuals, granting them the opportunity to work in professions facing shortages or with promising future prospects in Germany. To obtain a German EU Blue Card, most applicants need to apply for a German Employment Visa or a Job Seeker Visa from a German Embassy or Consulate. The minimum annual salary required for eligibility is €56,400/year (€4,700/month), although it may be reduced to €43,992/year (€3,666/month) for professions in high demand. The EU Blue Card offers special privileges to immigrants and their families. After 33 months of residence with German A1 language skills or after 21 months with German B1 language skills, Blue Card holders can apply for a settlement permit, also known as Permanent Residency status.
