What the program is

The Government and Politics PhD at Tallinn University is a doctoral programme for researchers, academics, and specialists focusing on politics, governance, public policy, and welfare state developments in a rapidly changing, multi-level world. The programme combines theoretical and methodological training with research connected to international academic networks and covers areas including comparative politics, policy analysis, governance theories, political theory, international relations, inequality, and welfare state development.

Admission and study information

The programme lasts 4 years (8 semesters) and is offered in English and Estonian. Applicants are expected to hold a Master’s degree in political science, public policy, social sciences, or a related field, together with a clear research interest and doctoral dissertation idea. Applicants must submit a 5–10 page doctoral research proposal approved and signed by a prospective supervisor and may be invited to an admission interview. The programme is free and offers 3 Junior Research Fellow and 1 Doctoral Student places. One Junior Research Fellow position is linked to the research project “Educational Choices, Inequality and Policy Feedback across the Life Course.”
