The Social Work PhD at Tallinn University is a doctoral programme focused on advanced knowledge and research in social work and social policy. The programme develops competencies in social and health sciences research, critical analysis, international research and development, academic teaching, and professional research. It is a full-time, 4-year PhD programme taught in Estonian and English.
Admission is open for full-time study only, with available positions for 1 Junior Research Fellow and 1 Doctoral Student for the 2026/2027 academic year. The programme-specific admission exam is an interview based on a doctoral thesis proposal agreed upon and signed by a prospective supervisor. The proposal should be 5–10 pages plus references and cover the research topic, objectives, research questions, previous studies, methodology, work plan, resources, risks, and reasons for choosing Tallinn University.
