The Sociology PhD at Tallinn University is a 4-year, full-time doctoral programme in the Social Sciences, Business and Law, focusing on society, human behaviour, social relationships, institutions, social structures, and cultural norms. The programme is taught in English and Estonian, carries 240 ECTS credits, and leads to a PhD in Sociology. The programme is free of charge.
Applicants are expected to hold a Master’s degree in the social sciences or an equivalent university diploma. Previous sociology studies and competence in research methods are advantageous. Admission is based on a doctoral project proposal agreed with and signed by a potential supervisor (60%) and an admission interview (40%). The proposal should be 8–10 pages plus references and address the research topic, objectives, research questions or hypotheses, previous research, theoretical and methodological approaches, data, work plan, resources, risks, and potential contribution to teaching.
