The Social Sciences doctoral programme at the University of Tartu is a research-based PhD programme focused on impactful societal questions and independent research. It offers seven specialisations: Economics, Business Administration, Sociology, Media and Communication, Psychology, Political Science, and Law. Doctoral studies centre on a doctoral thesis and research activities, with students developing an individual study plan in cooperation with their supervisor(s).
The programme is a doctoral-level programme taught in Estonian and English, with a duration of 4 years (240 ECTS) and is based in Tartu. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification and meet the university’s English language proficiency requirements. Applicants must submit a doctoral thesis project and CV and, following a positive assessment, attend an admission interview.
