What the program is

The PhD in Information and Communication Technology is a doctoral research program focused on developing advanced knowledge, skills, and experience for independent research in ICT. Students conduct research within areas including security and trust, digital transformation of society, smart environments, cyber security, artificial intelligence, hardware solutions, and software development. The program supports academic, research, and career advancement pathways and may include Early Stage Researcher, Industrial Doctoral Student, Doctoral Student, or External Student positions.

Study details and requirements

The program is a full-time doctoral study delivered in Estonian and English and comprises 240 ECTS credits over 4 years (8 semesters). Studies are free of charge, and during the nominal study period, doctoral students/junior researchers are entitled to a work contract and gross monthly income. Admission requires a master’s degree or equivalent qualification, along with a suitable ICT-related research topic and supervisor. Successful completion requires completing the required curriculum and successfully defending the graduation paper, leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Information and Communication Technology) degree.
