MSc Digital Health

The MSc in Digital Health at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) is a full-time, two-year postgraduate programme designed to prepare students for leadership and professional roles in the digital transformation of healthcare. The programme is taught entirely in English and comprises 120 ECTS, leading to a Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering.

The programme focuses on the application of digital technologies to modern healthcare and combines healthcare, technology, management, policy, research, and ethical perspectives. The 120-ECTS curriculum consists of several areas of study. General studies cover medical law and ethics, entrepreneurship, business planning, research design, and a project-based master’s seminar. Students work in teams to develop solutions to real healthcare challenges.

Core studies provide foundational knowledge in e-health, health policy, health promotion, human anatomy, and diseases. Through special studies, students develop more advanced expertise in Digital Health Technologies, including healthcare data systems and analysis, medical imaging and signals, interoperability, healthcare quality management, epidemiology, and healthcare financing.

The programme also includes free-choice courses, allowing students to select courses from the university’s available range. Practical learning is supported through an internship conducted in collaboration with industry partners. Students complete their studies with a graduation thesis, applying their knowledge through research and producing a scientific article or thesis examining healthcare digitalization from different perspectives.

Learning Environment and Practical Experience

Students study in Estonia, where digital healthcare infrastructure provides a practical environment for learning about healthcare digitalization. The programme highlights Estonia’s experience with e-health, including its digitized health data environment and nationwide electronic health record system.

Learning extends beyond classroom study through Digital Health Meet-ups, collaborative projects, research collaborations, and industry engagement. Students can interact with Estonia’s HealthTech community and high-tech companies connected with TalTech’s campus. The programme also provides opportunities to work on areas such as telemedicine, decision support systems, and digital prescribing.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification. To qualify for studies at Tallinn University of Technology, applicants generally need an average CGPA of at least 60% of the highest possible CGPA. If the Bachelor’s average is below 60%, the requirement may be considered fulfilled under the stated conditions if the applicant has an average grade of at least 60% in previous master’s studies. This consideration applies only where the Bachelor’s CGPA is not below 50%.

A GRE General Test result is required as a preliminary application requirement. The required threshold score and possible exemption criteria are provided by the university.

Educational qualification documents are accepted in English or Estonian. Applicants whose original documents are in another language must upload official translations together with the original educational documents.

English Language Requirement

Applicants must provide adequate proof of English language proficiency. The university specifies the accepted English-language certificates and required results on its application information page.

The English-language proof may be waived if the applicant has completed on-site secondary education, a Bachelor’s degree, or a Master’s degree taught fully in English in one of the specified countries: EU/EEA member states, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom. Applicants who studied in English but did not complete their studies on-site in one of these countries are required to provide an internationally recognized English test indicated by the university.

Additional Selection Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a motivation video in English. The video must not exceed three minutes and must include a short self-introduction featuring the applicant’s face and voice, a potential master’s thesis topic with an explanation of its relevance to the Digital Health field, the applicant’s personal interests and the curriculum, as well as a description and analysis of the applicant’s best teamwork experience.

An online interview is also part of the application requirements.

Tuition and Application Fee

The tuition fee for the MSc in Digital Health is €7,000 per year. The programme is free for EU/EEA citizens. Scholarship opportunities are available through Tallinn University of Technology.

An application fee of €100 per applicant is required. This is a one-time, non-refundable fee and allows an applicant to apply for two programmes.
