Programme Overview

The Social Anthropology Master’s programme at Vytautas Magnus University explores contemporary transnational and multicultural societies, intercultural understanding, social practices, political strategies, and cultural meanings. Students study ethnography, anthropological field research methods, contemporary social anthropology theories, ethnicity, migration, and identity politics, with elective options including gender, medical, visual, urban, food, and nutrition anthropology. As part of the programme, students may also obtain an “Intercultural Understanding” certificate from Southern Illinois University in the USA alongside their VDU diploma.

Admission and Career Opportunities

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Humanities. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in another field will be required to complete supplementary courses for an additional tuition fee per credit. A minimum 60% CGPA is required, while the admission score is based on the bachelor’s diploma supplement average (40%), bachelor’s thesis or final examination grade (10%), and motivation letter and interview (50%), with a minimum qualifying score of 5.4. Graduates can work in project management, public policy research, cultural resource management, migration and refugee affairs, human resources, international and non-governmental organisations, social research, media, public opinion, and market research, or continue to PhD studies.
