What the program is

The Materials Engineering (PhD) programme at the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC) provides advanced doctoral training in cutting-edge materials research, combining fundamental science with technological innovation. The programme includes specialised coursework, research activities, scientific internships, and preparation and public defence of a doctoral dissertation.

Study focus and research activities

Students complete 30 ECTS of coursework, including specialised study modules and transferable skills training. Research activities include presenting results at at least two international conferences and publishing at least two peer-reviewed scientific articles. A scientific internship of at least three months is recommended, with international mobility encouraged.

Financial support and research environment

The programme is tuition-free, with a tuition fee of €0 per year for both EU and non-EU citizens. Doctoral students receive a state-funded stipend of €1,406 per month in Year 1 and €1,628 per month in Years 2–4. Students may also receive annual research funding and access to funded national and international research projects.
