What the program is

The Economics PhD programme at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is designed for highly motivated doctoral students pursuing advanced academic research in economics. The programme combines doctoral coursework, independent research, international academic activities, and preparation and defence of a doctoral dissertation.

Study structure and opportunities

The programme includes 30 ECTS of doctoral studies through 3–4 study modules, with the possibility of completing 1–2 modules abroad. Doctoral candidates are expected to present research results at at least two international conferences and publish at least two scientific publications. Students can benefit from Doctor Europaeus certificate possibilities, high-profile research teams, academic mobility, internships abroad, entrepreneurship support through “Start up Space,” and the KTU International PhD Summer School.

Tuition, funding and intake

The programme lasts 4 years full-time. Tuition is €0 per year (free) for both EU and non-EU citizens. Lithuanian state scholarships provide €1,406/month during the first year and €1,628/month during years 2–4, with additional scholarships and grants available for research, doctoral studies, and academic mobility.
