The German Language and Linguistics Master’s programme at Leiden University is a specialisation within the MA Modern Languages, offering in-depth study of German linguistic theory and practice. Students develop advanced knowledge of empirical, theoretical and experimental approaches to linguistics while exploring areas such as linguistic theory, fieldwork and psycholinguistic experiments.
The programme encourages students to develop their own research ideas and proposals with support from experienced tutors and the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics. Students can combine courses from the programme with other master’s courses at the Faculty of Humanities. The programme develops German fluency as well as communication, organisational, didactic and academic skills relevant to careers in academia and professions requiring strong German communication abilities. The programme is taught in English.
