About the Program

The Youth at Risk (Pedagogical Sciences) (track) is a Master of Science track at the University of Amsterdam focused on preventative youth care and the professional, academically sound resolution of pedagogical issues across different professional fields. The programme addresses situations where educators, institutions, or authorities need to act to improve young people’s development opportunities and prevent, identify, or resolve problems affecting children and young people.

Students learn to develop professional recommendations at both policy and practical levels, with recommendations implemented in practice. Key topics include individual susceptibility to risk, antisocial and delinquent behaviour, psychosocial problems, child abuse, foster and adoption family constellations, learning disabilities, school dropout, and intervention and implementation practices. The University of Amsterdam states that it is the only Dutch university offering this international Master’s track.

Study Details & Admission

The programme is taught in English and carries 60 ECTS credits. Language requirements are IELTS 6.5 overall, TOEFL internet-based 92, or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English 180.
