What the program is

Earth, Life and Climate is an interdisciplinary Master’s programme examining the processes that govern past, present, and future climates, environments, and biotic responses. It focuses on sedimentary systems, biodiversity, climate dynamics, and their evolution, while providing knowledge to understand climate change and its effects on natural environments such as soils, sediments, lakes, groundwater, wetlands, estuaries, and oceans.

Study and Research Focus

The programme covers topics including the evolution of life, sedimentary basins, carbon sources and sinks, biogeochemical and geochemical processes, and climate reconstruction. Students learn reconstruction methods, modelling techniques, and laboratory methods across disciplines such as biogeology, palaeontology, sedimentology, environmental geochemistry, hydrology, geology, biology, climate dynamics, and palaeoceanography. The programme is taught in English and includes a research project or traineeship preparing students for careers in applied or fundamental research.
