What the program is

The Research Master in Spatial Sciences at the University of Groningen is a two-year Master of Science programme designed for students interested in becoming researchers of spatial subjects. It offers broad study opportunities across areas including environmental and infrastructure planning, economic geography, cultural geography, population studies, socio-spatial planning, and real estate studies. Students can design their own programme by selecting courses based on their interests, including courses from other faculties.

Study structure and requirements

The programme is taught in English, lasts 2 years, and comprises 120 ECTS. Its focus is on developing advanced scientific research skills through multidisciplinary research settings while allowing students substantial freedom in selecting their courses. Tuition for 2026/2027 is €2,694 per year for EU/EEA students, €22,200 per year for Non-EU/EEA students, and €21,200 per year at the institutional rate. The programme is accredited by NVAO.
