New Media and Digital Culture is a one-year Academic Master’s programme at Utrecht University that examines how digital media are transforming everyday life, society, politics and culture. The programme explores topics ranging from AI-generated art and news to digital cities and green games, while developing students’ ability to critically analyse digital media and understand technologies and processes that are often hidden or “black-boxed.”
The programme is taught in English and leads to a Master of Arts degree. Students learn to contribute to academic and public debates and translate their insights into professional fields. English-language requirements include Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English at B1 level, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English at C1 level, IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in writing, TOEFL 580 paper-based, 237 computer-based, or 93 internet-based.
