What the program is

Arts & Culture: Contemporary Art History is a one-year Master’s specialisation at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. It focuses on contemporary visual, process-based, and digital art from the 1960s to the present, examining artworks that address challenges associated with the globalised information society and the Anthropocene. The programme is a track within the Master’s programme in Arts & Culture.

Study structure and requirements

The programme is taught in English and includes courses in art criticism and new media art, as well as a field trip designed to develop students’ analytical skills. English-language requirements listed are Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English, IELTS 7.0 overall, TOEFL 600 paper-based, 250 computer-based, or 100 internet-based.
