The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology (Double-Discipline) at the University of Primorska (UP), offered through the Faculty of Humanities (FHŠ), is a three-year, full-time undergraduate programme located in Koper, Slovenia. The programme is conducted in Slovenian or English, consists of six semesters, and carries 180 ECTS credits. It provides students with an interdisciplinary understanding of human societies, cultural diversity, social organisation, and human behaviour across historical and contemporary contexts. Students explore how different communities develop identities, traditions, social structures, and cultural practices while examining the influence of migration, cultural adaptation, and social change.
The programme focuses on social and cultural anthropology, exploring historical and modern lifestyles, cultural identities, social systems, migration, assimilation, and interactions between different communities. Students examine anthropological issues within Slovenia, the Mediterranean region, particularly Istria, wider Europe, and other parts of the world, including indigenous communities in America. Through comparative and interdisciplinary approaches, they develop critical thinking, cultural understanding, and analytical skills for investigating social, political, and economic processes.
Practical anthropological research is an important component of the programme. Students become familiar with field research methods, including participant observation, interviews, and other techniques used to investigate human behaviour and cultural practices. They may also participate in research projects that combine theoretical study with practical fieldwork, developing skills in collecting, interpreting, and analysing anthropological information.
The programme follows a double discipline structure, meaning applicants must select two double discipline study programmes when applying. Alternatively, students may combine Anthropology with a double-discipline module from another eligible programme offered by the Faculty of Humanities. This structure allows students to integrate anthropological knowledge with another academic discipline.
Applicants must meet one of the specified secondary education qualifications, including the general matura, the vocational matura with an additional general matura subject, or an eligible four-year secondary education programme completed before 1 June 1995. If enrolment places are limited, applicants are ranked according to examination results and secondary school academic performance.
Full-time tuition is free for eligible students from EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia. Non-EU tuition fees must be confirmed through the university’s official tuition schedule, as the historically reported bachelor’s tuition range of €2,400-€3,750.
