The Master’s programme in Humanities at Alma Mater Europaea University (AMEU) is a two-year postgraduate degree offered in Maribor / Ljubljana, Slovenia. Delivered in English according to the supplied programme information, the programme consists of four semesters and carries 120 ECTS credits.
The programme provides an interdisciplinary understanding of human society, culture, history, philosophy, media and contemporary social developments. It develops advanced analytical, interpretative, communication and research competencies, enabling students to explore complex cultural and social questions from multiple academic perspectives.
The programme integrates humanities and social science disciplines to examine human ideas, values, identities, cultural practices and the processes shaping contemporary society.
Students explore philosophy, anthropology, history, social communication, media, art and cultural studies. Through critical analysis and independent research, they develop the ability to interpret complex social phenomena, evaluate academic sources and communicate arguments effectively.
The curriculum combines compulsory subjects with a broad selection of electives, allowing students to shape their studies according to their research interests and professional goals.
During the first year, students study topics including epistemology, social communication and media, historical anthropology, regional studies, and the anthropology of gender and cultures.
Elective courses provide opportunities to explore contemporary philosophy, new media, aesthetics, religion and society, human rights, the history of feminism, hermeneutics, historical and anthropological research, law and political thought.
The interdisciplinary structure encourages students to connect different academic perspectives when investigating cultural and societal challenges.
The programme emphasises independent research, critical thinking, academic interpretation and effective communication.
Students learn to analyse historical, philosophical and anthropological questions, evaluate competing interpretations and construct well-supported written and oral arguments.
The second year offers substantial elective flexibility. The final semester is dedicated to preparing a Master’s thesis worth 30 ECTS credits, allowing students to investigate a selected humanities research question independently.
The programme is delivered part-time, with lectures generally organised between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
Lectures are recorded and made available through the university’s e-classroom. Students attending online must submit a lecture summary within the specified deadline to receive recognition of full attendance.
Study obligations generally take place once or twice per week. Depending on the course, examinations may be conducted online or at an Alma Mater location.
Applicants who have completed a first-cycle degree in humanities or social sciences with at least 180 ECTS credits may enrol without additional study obligations.
Graduates from other academic disciplines may also apply but must complete two additional requirements before enrolment: Humanities Colloquium 1: Antiquity and the Middle Ages and Research Practicum: Selected Topics in the History of Humanism and Art. Each carries 6 ECTS credits.
The programme develops competencies relevant to research, education, cultural institutions, media, publishing, communication and public-sector activities.
Graduates may apply their knowledge in museums, galleries, publishing houses, cultural heritage organisations, educational institutions, research projects, non-governmental organisations and organisations involved in human rights or community development.
The stated tuition fee is €6,600 per year for all nationalities, according to the university’s 2025/26 tuition fee information.
