Description:
The PhD programme in Theory and Structures of Civil Engineering Works is a full-time doctoral programme offered at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. The programme has a standard duration of four years and is taught in English. It focuses on advanced theory, research, analysis, and design of civil engineering structures, buildings, and transport infrastructure. Depending on the area of specialization, students develop expertise in structural engineering, including concrete, steel, and timber structures; transport infrastructure; and geotechnical engineering. The curriculum’s research focus includes advanced experimental methods, mathematical modelling, structural assessment, construction technologies, and the interaction between structures and their surrounding environment.
The programme develops the ability to formulate and solve complex engineering problems, apply advanced computational methods and software, conduct independent scientific research, and contribute to innovation in the construction industry. Graduates gain skills in research planning, physical and mathematical modelling, technical problem-solving, environmental protection, and international scientific collaboration. Career opportunities include research and educational institutions, construction companies, engineering consultancies, design offices, geotechnical engineering firms, and public or state-sector organizations.
