Description:
Applied Mechanics is a full-time doctoral study programme offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. The programme has a standard duration of three years and is taught in English. It focuses on the scientific and technical principles of mechanics, machine design, mechanical engineering production, structural analysis, and mechatronics. Students develop knowledge of mechanics and elasticity, numerical methods, measurement systems, material properties, machine and equipment design, mechanical testing, and reliability of structural components. The programme also covers technical documentation, computer-aided design (CAD), and the analysis and optimization of mechanical systems.
The programme develops practical and analytical skills in mechanical design, structural calculations, experimental measurement, numerical analysis, and the evaluation of mechanical systems. Graduates learn to prepare technical reports, develop CAD models, assess operational loads, select suitable materials and analysis methods, and solve engineering problems independently or collaboratively. Career opportunities include engineering design, mechanical production, research and development, testing and measurement, quality assurance, and mechanics and mechatronics-related roles in industrial companies. The programme also supports further professional specialization and research-based careers. According to the source, students frequently gain industry experience through projects, contracts, and dissertation work with engineering, manufacturing, and research companies. The planned student capacity for the 2026/2027 academic year is one student.
