Scandit is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help develop and scale ShelfView, a machine-learning-powered retail platform that provides real-time shelf visibility and store-monitoring capabilities. The role involves building and operating distributed backend systems that process store imagery, support product recognition, and deliver actionable alerts for enterprise retail customers.
Responsibilities include load and stress testing large deployments, improving infrastructure and GPU capacity strategies, collaborating with AI/ML teams to bring models into production, strengthening multi-tenant architecture, and improving observability. The engineer will also design and evolve service APIs, troubleshoot production issues, mentor colleagues, and help establish technical direction as the team grows.
The technology stack includes Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Temporal, PubSub, GCP, AWS, Vertex AI, OpenTelemetry, Grafana Tempo, Jaeger, and GitLab.
Applicants should have at least five years of professional cloud backend engineering experience, with strong Python skills and experience in distributed workflows, identity and authentication systems, multi-tenant architectures, observability, databases, cloud pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code. Experience operating production systems at scale is required. Experience with large-scale machine-learning model serving and GPU capacity planning is an advantage.
Scandit offers flexible office, hybrid, or home working arrangements, a people-first culture, hackathons, global team activities, a birthday day off, an individual equity plan, and location-specific benefits.
