American Studies / Études anglophones

The Master of Arts in American Studies / Études anglophones is an international, full-time programme based in Mainz and offered in cooperation with Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. The programme focuses on American Studies and Intercultural Studies, with areas including interculturality and interdisciplinarity, Early American Studies, cultural studies, modern American literature and media, book trade, language didactics, and intercultural communication. Students pursue an integrated binational course designed to award two nationally recognised degrees: a Master of Arts from the German university and a Master Recherche from the French partner university.

The programme has a standard duration of 4 semesters and is taught primarily in English, with French as an additional language of instruction. Admission requires a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies, another anglophone field, or an equivalent degree, very good English proficiency at CEFR C1, and French proficiency at CEFR B2 or equivalent evidence. German proficiency is not required. Studies can begin in the winter or summer semester, with winter commencement recommended. The application deadline for the Winter Semester /27 is 09/01, while the Summer Semester 2027 deadline is 03/01.
