Ancient Studies

The Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Studies at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam explores the Classical cultures that shaped the modern world. Students study the art, literature, philosophy, history, mythology, archaeology, and languages of Antiquity while developing research skills and a critical perspective on contemporary events and developments.

Program Focus

Students can tailor the programme through five specialisations: Archaeology, Ancient History, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Ancient Greek, or Latin. The programme has a small-scale structure with close contact between students and lecturers and is offered through a collaboration between Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam. It is taught in English and takes three years to complete, comprising 180 ECTS credits.
