Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Anglophone Studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen focuses on the English language, cultures, and literatures of English-speaking regions. Students study historical and contemporary contexts and their representation across books, magazines, music, comics, film, and television. The program also allows specialization in Great Britain, the USA, or other Anglophone regions. All courses, teaching methods, and examinations are conducted in English.

Study Details & Requirements

The program is offered at the Essen Campus and begins in the winter semester. The standard period is 6 semesters for the full-time course, while the part-time option has a standard period of 10 semesters. Admission is without restriction. Applicants need a general or subject-specific university entrance qualification, or an equivalent recognized qualification; access is also possible for those with completed vocational training under the applicable regulations. Applicants without a German school-leaving certificate or from non-EU/EEA countries must demonstrate very good English at CEFR B2, with accepted evidence including CAE, IELTS 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 85. A mandatory diagnostic language test is conducted at the beginning of the program but is not a prerequisite for enrollment.
