The Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Heritage at the University of Primorska (UP), offered through the Faculty of Humanities (FHŠ), is a three-year undergraduate programme based in Koper, Slovenia. The programme consists of six semesters and carries 180 ECTS credits. It provides an interdisciplinary understanding of cultural heritage, combining archaeology, art history, ethnology, architecture, and history. Students explore the preservation, protection, documentation, management, and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural heritage while developing an understanding of its importance for contemporary society and sustainable development.
The programme introduces students to cultural heritage legislation, heritage protection principles, conservation practices, and the professional management of historical and cultural resources. It integrates archaeological, historical, architectural, artistic, and ethnological perspectives to examine cultural and regional diversity. Students acquire knowledge of heritage documentation, administrative procedures, cultural resource management, and strategies for promoting and developing heritage-related projects.
Practical training and field-based learning are important components of the programme. Students participate in professional excursions, fieldwork activities, and practical projects that expose them to heritage preservation challenges, conservation practices, and cultural heritage management. These activities develop practical research, documentation, analytical, and professional skills.
Although the Cultural Heritage programme has both single-discipline and double-discipline formats, only the double-discipline course is announced in the supplied call for enrolment. Applicants must select another double-discipline course or study programme and meet the admission requirements for both chosen subjects. The programme requires successful completion of 180 ECTS credits over three years.
Graduates may pursue professional opportunities in regional and national public institutions, government administration, cultural heritage protection organisations, heritage marketing and promotion agencies, tourism organisations, and media editorial offices. The programme also provides a foundation for postgraduate study in cultural heritage and related academic disciplines.
Full-time tuition is reported as free for eligible students from EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia. Non-EU tuition fees should be confirmed through the university’s official tuition fee schedule. The historically reported bachelor’s tuition range of €2,400-€3,750.
Applicants must satisfy the stated secondary education requirements, including the general matura, the vocational matura with an additional general matura subject, or an eligible four-year secondary school qualification completed before 1 June 1995. Where enrolment is restricted, selection is based on examination results and secondary school academic performance.
