The Bachelor of Humanities at Alma Mater Europaea University (AMEU) is a three-year, first-cycle undergraduate programme delivered in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The programme consists of six semesters and carries 180 ECTS credits. Offered through part-time, hybrid study, it provides an interdisciplinary education in philosophy, history, literature, ethics, cultural studies, art, and contemporary social issues. Students develop critical thinking, research, communication, and analytical skills while examining human thought, cultural development, historical processes, and the challenges facing modern society.
The curriculum combines classical humanities disciplines with contemporary approaches to understanding society and culture. Students explore ethics, political philosophy, logic, analytical philosophy, historical interpretation, aesthetics, literature, religious studies, and intercultural communication. The programme also addresses globalisation, human rights, social inequalities, identity, sustainability, and the influence of technology on contemporary society. Elective subjects include European history, feminist theory, media studies, anthropology of ancient societies, digital humanities, and the relationship between philosophy and literature.
Research-based learning is an important component of the programme. Students participate in a research practicum focused on selected topics in the history of humanism and art, developing skills in source evaluation, academic research, argumentation, and the interpretation of historical and cultural materials. The programme does not include mandatory professional internships. Students complete their studies by fulfilling academic requirements and preparing a final thesis.
The programme is offered part-time in a hybrid format, allowing students to attend lectures in Ljubljana or remotely. Recorded lectures are available through the university’s online learning environment. Tutorials require active participation, while examinations may be conducted in person or online depending on the course and examination arrangements.
Graduates may pursue opportunities in cultural organisations, museums, galleries, publishing, media, public relations, public administration, research institutions, non-governmental organisations, and cultural heritage or tourism projects. The programme develops transferable professional skills in research, analytical reasoning, communication, and understanding social and cultural processes.
The detailed programme information lists tuition of €2,600 per academic year, while the initial 2025/2026 fee summary specifies €5,500 annually. These figures conflict and should be confirmed against the applicable academic year’s official fee schedule before publication. The Humanities programme is accredited within the Slovenian higher education system and follows the European Bologna first-cycle qualification structure.
