The Biotechnology doctoral study programme is offered by the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. It is a full-time programme with a standard duration of four years, taught in English, leading to the academic degree of Doctor (PhD.).
Students develop advanced knowledge of biotechnology and research methods, including the design and optimization of biotechnological processes across industrial, agricultural, food, medical, pharmaceutical, and environmental applications.
The programme develops practical skills in experimental design, laboratory equipment, statistical analysis, bioprocess optimization, genetic engineering, metabolic pathway analysis, and bioanalytical techniques. Students learn to evaluate scientific findings, formulate research hypotheses, and develop innovative solutions to complex biotechnological problems.
Graduates are prepared to conduct independent scientific research, develop new research procedures, coordinate projects, and address interdisciplinary challenges. They develop analytical and critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and research leadership skills. They are also trained to present scientific findings and publish research in scientific journals.
Graduates may pursue careers in biotechnology, food and pharmaceutical companies, universities, research institutes, and commercial or technical organizations. Potential professional roles include biotechnologist, biochemist, geneticist, analytical chemist, research and development specialist, and manager in biotechnological, chemical, or pharmaceutical production.
Career opportunities also include fermentation technology, drug development, bioengineering, environmental biotechnology, quality management, and laboratory research.
The planned intake is one student for each of the 2026/2027 and 2025/2026 academic years. The source reports that one student was admitted in each of these academic years.
