The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Primorska (UP), offered through the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (FAMNIT), is a three-year undergraduate programme based in Koper, Slovenia. Taught in English, the programme combines mathematical theory, computer science, algorithmic problem-solving, and modern computational technologies. It consists of six semesters and requires the completion of 180 ECTS credits. The curriculum provides an integrated foundation in mathematics and computing, progressing from fundamental mathematical principles and theoretical computer science to discrete mathematics, computational modelling, and data-driven applications.
Students develop analytical reasoning, mathematical modelling, programming, algorithm design, computational problem-solving, and data analysis skills. The programme emphasises numerical, graphical, algebraic, discrete, and computational methods, enabling students to connect theoretical mathematics with practical technological applications. It also promotes critical thinking, effective technical communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional responsibility, and independent learning.
Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in data analysis, junior data science, software development, algorithm engineering, information security, and cryptography. Their mathematical and computational foundations also provide opportunities in financial services, high-technology companies, and research and development teams. The programme supports adaptability to developments in digital technologies and data-driven industries.
Full-time tuition is free for eligible students from EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia. Non-EU students should consult the university’s official tuition fee schedule, as the historically reported bachelor’s tuition range of €2,400–€3,750 per year is not a confirmed current programme-specific fee.
To progress to the next academic year, students normally need at least 42 ECTS credits from the current year and must complete all requirements from the previous year. Students graduate after successfully completing all prescribed academic requirements totalling 180 ECTS credits.
