What the program is

The Demography PhD at Tallinn University is a full-time doctoral programme focused on population studies and advanced research in demography. The programme provides opportunities to develop international-level research skills, scientific expertise, and high-level population-related competence for academic and professional work, particularly in areas such as healthcare, education, social security, pension systems, and regional planning.

Admission and study information

The programme lasts 4 years (8 semesters) and is offered in English and Estonian. Applicants are expected to hold a Master’s degree or equivalent, have a clear interest in population studies, and be willing to work with quantitative datasets. Prior independent research experience and publications are considered an advantage, while international cooperation is recommended. Applicants are also expected to connect their research topic with issues relevant to Estonian population development. The programme is free and offers 1 Junior Research Fellow and 1 Doctoral Student place for the stated intake.
