Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) is a public university located in Tallinn, Estonia, offering higher education in the major fields of music and theatre. The Academy provides Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programmes and combines higher education, creative activities, scientific research, and cultural development.

Academic Programmes

EAMT offers a range of full-time programmes across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Undergraduate options include BA Jazz Music, BA Classical Music Performance (Brass, Woodwind and Percussion), BA Classical Music Performance (Strings), and BA Classical Music Performance (Choral Conducting).

At postgraduate level, students can pursue programmes including MA Contemporary Physical Performance Making (CPPM), MA Jazz Music, MA Classical Music Performance (Strings), MA Classical Music Performance (Conducting), and MA Classical Music Performance (Brass, Woodwind and Percussion).

The Academy also offers a PhD in Music and Theatre as a full-time doctoral programme.

The Academy’s mission is to sustain, develop, and promote Estonian culture at the highest level through music and theatre education, creative activities, and research. EAMT places emphasis on creativity, professional proficiency, commitment, openness, and the preservation of national cultural traditions.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

For international students whose language of tuition is English, tuition fees range from EUR 1,500 to EUR 13,000 per year, depending on the study programme and the student’s country of origin, including EU or non-EU status.

A limited number of scholarships are available for international students. Scholarship auditions usually take place at the end of September.

There is no tuition fee for doctoral studies. Full-time doctoral students are also entitled to receive a monthly stipend.

Accommodation

The Academy provides information about a dormitory in the centre of Tallinn. The accommodation information provided includes admission from Monday to Friday between 13:00 and 17:00, with admission closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

International Recognition

In 2019, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre was included in the QS World University Ranking for the first time. The source states that EAMT is the only music university from the Baltic states included on the QS list and is ranked 51–100 in the Performing Arts category, sharing this position with several internationally recognised music academies.
