Description:
The PhD study programme in Inorganic Chemistry is offered by the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The programme focuses on advanced inorganic chemistry, the synthesis and characterisation of inorganic compounds, and the development of innovative materials for scientific and industrial applications.
Doctoral students develop advanced theoretical knowledge and practical research skills in inorganic, coordination, organometallic, and cluster chemistry, with opportunities to explore interdisciplinary applications in materials science, biotechnology, medicine, and industry.
The programme covers a wide range of advanced research topics, including:
Students learn to synthesise, separate, and purify compounds and use analytical techniques such as infrared, Raman, and electron spectroscopy to investigate chemical structures and properties.
The programme prepares students to formulate scientific problems, design experiments, develop new compounds, and independently conduct research. Students gain experience in scientific project development, research team leadership, scientific communication, and publishing research findings.
Graduates are also equipped to evaluate the technical, ethical, legal, social, and environmental implications of new materials and technologies. The programme develops competencies in computational chemistry, scientific software, database use, and university-level teaching.
Graduates can pursue careers in research and development, academia, chemical manufacturing, materials science, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, food production, cosmetics, biotechnology, and related interdisciplinary fields.
Potential roles include inorganic chemist specialist, chemical research and development specialist, chemical technologist, chemical production specialist, quality control specialist, chemical production manager, theoretical chemist, and university lecturer or researcher.
Graduates may work at universities, research institutes, industrial laboratories, and companies developing specialised inorganic compounds, nanomaterials, composites, magnetic materials, and pharmaceutical or diagnostic products.
