What the program is

The Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences offers three study paths: Fine Art, Lens-Based Media, and Experimental Publishing. The two-year, 120 ECTS programme is taught in English and is offered through the Piet Zwart Institute of the Willem de Kooning Academy. The Fine Art pathway combines research, artistic practice, critical reflection, professional development, guidance, workshops, and opportunities for exhibitions and public programming.

Study structure and requirements

Lens-Based Media approaches animation, photography, and contemporary cinematic forms as an expanded field, while Experimental Publishing focuses on critical engagement with societal issues in art, design, and cultural products. Language requirements include IELTS overall band 6, TOEFL 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, or 80 internet-based. Tuition for 2026/2027 is €2,694 per year for EU/EEA students and €13,502 per year for both non-EU/EEA and institutional students. The programme has September intakes in 2027, 2028, and 2029.
