What the program is

The Master of Film (Artistic Research) at the Netherlands Film Academy, part of Amsterdam University of the Arts, is a two-year programme designed for a select group of filmmakers and visual, media or other artists seeking further personal and professional development. The programme focuses on artistic research in and through film within an investigative, demanding and internationally oriented environment.

Study focus and opportunities

The programme connects artistic practice with research, encouraging students to reflect, experiment, exchange ideas and develop a creative identity. Students work with research methodologies, experiments and the articulation or conceptualisation of artistic processes and outcomes. The programme is largely question-driven, with the student’s research question and project idea serving as a central thread throughout the course. Teaching is in English.
