The MSc in Geoinformatics for Urbanised Society is a two-year, full-time postgraduate programme offered by the University of Tartu, Estonia. Applicants must hold an undergraduate diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification. The Bachelor’s degree or equivalent must be obtained by the end of July. Applicants must also have completed at least 30 ECTS during their previous studies in one or more relevant areas, including geography, geoinformatics, information technology, environmental technology, planning, geology, ecology, biology, environmental physics, economics, sociology, or government and politics.
Entry qualification documents are accepted in English or Estonian.
Applicants are also required to meet the University of Tartu’s English language requirements. The exact acceptable English tests and exemption categories are specified by the university’s English language requirements.
A motivation letter in English is required as part of the application. The final version must be uploaded before submitting the application because it cannot be edited after submission.
The motivation letter must be no longer than 4,600 characters including spaces and should address the applicant’s field-related skills and knowledge gained through previous education and, where applicable, work experience. Applicants should explain how their background relates to the content of the master’s programme, how the programme can contribute to their personal development, and their current ideas for a potential research topic during their master’s studies.
The proposed research topic is not binding and may change during the studies. The motivation letter is evaluated based on the compatibility of the applicant’s interests with the goals of the programme, analytical and argumentation skills, and self-expression and written English fluency.
The tuition fee for the programme is €7,200 per year. Citizens and permanent residence permit holders of EU/EEA countries or Switzerland are exempt from the tuition fee.
The source states that there are no tuition waivers for citizens from outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland. However, two admitted students will receive a 50% tuition fee reduction for their second semester, based on the weighted average grade of all results from the previous semester.
Applicants who are not citizens of the EU/EEA or Switzerland must pre-pay half of the first semester’s tuition fee after receiving an admission offer.
In addition to tuition, there is a €100 one-time, non-refundable application fee.
