The Physical Chemistry doctoral study programme is offered by the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. It is a full-time, four-year programme taught in English and leads to the academic degree of Doctor (PhD.).
The programme focuses on advanced research in physical chemistry, biophysical chemistry, theoretical and computational chemistry, and macromolecular chemistry.
Students develop advanced knowledge of chemical systems, molecular structures, chemical reactions, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, spectroscopy, and polymer science. They learn to design and conduct experiments, perform theoretical calculations, analyze scientific data, and use modern experimental equipment and computational methods.
Depending on their specialization, students may develop expertise in molecular modeling, quantum chemistry, biophysical analysis, polymer materials, structural analysis, and the investigation of chemical and physical properties of substances.
Graduates are prepared to conduct independent scientific research, formulate research hypotheses, develop new methodologies, and solve complex interdisciplinary problems. They develop analytical thinking, project management, teamwork, scientific communication, and research leadership skills.
The programme also emphasizes the responsible application of scientific knowledge, research ethics, and the presentation and publication of research findings.
Graduates may pursue careers in universities, research institutes, specialized laboratories, and the chemical, pharmaceutical, food-processing, and related industries. Other potential employment areas include healthcare, environmental studies, testing, forensic science, and informatics.
Possible professional roles include chemical research and development specialist, manager in chemical and pharmaceutical production, polymer research and development specialist, polymer processing technologist, and quality management specialist in chemical production.
The planned capacity is three students for each of the 2026/2027 and 2025/2026 academic years. The source reports that one student was admitted in 2026/2027 and two students were admitted in 2025/2026.
