What the program is

The Society, Sustainability and Planning master’s programme at the University of Groningen focuses on understanding the human factor in spatial interventions and transforming the built environment in collaboration with its users. The programme examines the social, cultural, political, and economic contexts of spatial decision-making, with particular attention to citizens, stakeholders, social groups, spatial justice, and sustainable development.

Study details

This Master of Science programme is taught in English, lasts 1 year, and carries 60 ECTS credits. It addresses the social dimensions of the global transition towards a more sustainable society and explores how spatial planning can contribute to sustainable places and futures, including areas such as healthy ageing, a clean environment, and eliminating poverty. The programme is accredited by NVAO. For 2026/2027, tuition is €2,694 for EU/EEA students, €22,200 for Non-EU/EEA students, and €21,200 for institutional tuition.
