What the program is

The Sociology PhD programme at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) offers doctoral positions for highly motivated students pursuing advanced academic research in sociology. The programme combines doctoral studies, independent research, international academic activities, and preparation and defence of a doctoral dissertation.

Study structure and opportunities

The programme includes 30 ECTS through 3–4 study modules, with the opportunity to complete 1–2 modules abroad. Doctoral researchers are expected to present their research at at least two international conferences and publish at least two scientific publications. Students can benefit from Doctor Europaeus certificate possibilities, high-profile research teams, academic mobility and internships abroad, entrepreneurship support through “Start up Space,” and the KTU International PhD Summer School.

Tuition & funding

The programme lasts 4 years full-time. Tuition is €0 per year (state-funded) for both EU and non-EU citizens. Lithuanian state scholarships are €1,406/month in the first year and €1,628/month in years 2–4, with additional scholarships and grants available for doctoral studies, research, and academic mobility.
