Description:
Water Resources Engineering is a full-time doctoral programme offered by the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. The programme has a standard duration of four years and is taught in English. It focuses on advanced research and development in water management engineering, including water science, experimental laboratory methods, field research, and geoinformatics and hydroinformatics procedures. Students develop specialized knowledge in the design, management, and operation of water management systems, including hydropower and control structures, reservoirs, land reclamation, water supply, wastewater management, and environmental engineering. The programme also addresses integrated water management, watershed planning, aquatic ecosystem protection, and nature-based measures for reducing natural hazards.
The programme develops advanced research capabilities, including scientific observation, field and laboratory data analysis, hypothesis development, and physical and mathematical modelling. Graduates learn to address complex water-related and environmental challenges, develop innovative solutions, and contribute to sustainable water management and environmental protection. Career opportunities include research and development institutions, universities, engineering consultancies, water supply and wastewater companies, river basin management organizations, environmental authorities, government agencies, and private-sector companies specializing in water infrastructure and environmental engineering. Graduates may also work in risk assessment, environmental protection, water resource planning, and the design and management of water-related construction projects. The planned student capacity for the 2026/2027 academic year is one student.
