Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help shape Finance data, analytics, and AI initiatives within its Finance & Group Functions Data & Analytics team. The role focuses on designing and enhancing scalable data products and pipelines using SAP and non-SAP data sources, building data models in Snowflake, and creating trusted data assets for Finance.
The position involves developing transformation and analytics layers with dbt, applying engineering best practices such as version control, CI/CD, code reviews, testing, documentation, and mentoring Data Engineers. The successful candidate will work with data engineers, SAP experts, analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders in a hybrid setup with at least 2–3 days per week on site.
Candidates should have relevant professional experience and strong skills in Apache technologies, AWS, Python, Snowflake, and dbt. Experience with SAP’s modern cloud data landscape or SAP BW data modeling is advantageous, as is familiarity with Finance processes such as SAP FI/CO, financial reporting, and planning and consolidation.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and several years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, Software Developer, Data Scientist, or similar; alternatively, Bachelor's degree with more relevant professional experience
- Proven proficiency with the Apache ecosystem, including Iceberg, Spark, and Airflow
- Strong experience with AWS cloud services, including Glue, Lambda, and StepFunctions
- Strong Python scripting skills
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake and dbt, including data modeling, performance tuning, and secure data access patterns
- Experience with SAP's modern cloud data landscape and/or SAP BW data modeling is a strong advantage
- Familiarity with end-to-end Finance processes, including SAP FI/CO, period-end closing, financial reporting, and planning and consolidation
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and proactively drive work forward with stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills in English
- German is a strong plus
